Coronavirus in Poland: Continuation of restrictions, mandatory masks

Continuation of restrictions – some of them until 19 or 26 April, postponement of matura exams and exams for eighth-graders (egzamin ósmoklasisty), mandatory masks – these are the most important information provided by the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki.

Matura exams and exams for eighth-graders (egzamin ósmoklasisty) are postponed. At the earliest they will take place in June.

Mandatory masks: from Thursday, April 16, 2020, we are introducing the obligation to cover the mouth and nose. Everyone in a public place will have to wear a mask, scarf or handkerchief that covers both the mouth and nose.

Continuation of existing restrictions:

Until Sunday, April 19, 2020, still binding:

  • restrictions on movement
  • ban on going out for people under 18 unaccompanied by an adult
  • restrictions on religious events – maximum 5 people allowed in a church, also during Easter
  • restrictions on operating of shopping malls and large-format building supplies shops
  • restrictions on using public transport and vehicles with more than nine seats
  • suspension of the activity of hair salons, beauty salons, tattoo studios etc.
  • prohibition of using parks, forests, beaches, boulevards, promenades and city bike system
  • restaurants are closed
  • limitations related to number of people in shops, at marketplaces and post offices
  • restrictions on cultural institutions activities (cinemas, theatres etc.)

Until Sunday, April 26, 2020, still binding:

  • schools and universities are closed
  • kindergartens and nurseries are closed
  • suspension of passenger air traffic
  • suspension of international railway traffic
  • attendance allowance for parents will be extended

Until Sunday, May 3, 2020, still binding:

  • closed borders (the right to cross the Polish border still have, inter alia, Polish citizens; foreigners who are spouses or children of Polish citizens; those who have the right of permanent or temporary residence in Poland, or a work permit – full list of exemptions is available here)
  • obligatory quarantine for people crossing the Polish border

  • restrictions on organisation of mass events and assembliesa
