Małopolska’s attractions rescued from the past. Quirky, mysterious and delicious
Once destined for a sorrowful end, they have become icons.
The last “ladybird” in Tarnów.
Tarnów, alongside Kraków and Lviv, was one of the Galician cities that boasted a tram line. Although the ride itself was not very long – as the tracks connected Burtnicza Street with the railway station – it undoubtedly added to the city’s prestige. The tram carriages were painted red, which is why they came to be known as “ladybirds”. Sadly, their service in Tarnów did not last very long, as they carried the city’s residents only between 1911 and 1942. The line was closed down by the Germans during World War II – the occupying forces considered that the trams got in the way of military manoeuvres.
