Fake tour guides target tourists in Poland’s Tatra Mountains, authorities warn
Tatra National Park, in the southern Polish highlands, has warned visitors of the dangers of unauthorized ‘guides’ who charge to take people to mountain peaks and then abandon them.
The warnings come following a sudden increase in online advertisements for climbing ‘partners’ who turn out to be scammers charging for unauthorized and unsafe tours.
Rangers and guides say that it takes two years’ training to become a certified Tatra guide and that the imposters ignore safety procedures in their rush to the summit.
