Here you will find tens of wooden churches that document vital role of religion and tradition to the locals. The\u00a0most recent\u00a0churches\u00a0date to the 1920s. Most\u00a0were built on\u00a0simple plan, with\u00a0no\u00a0aisles and high roofs. Towers\u00a0were built\u00a0at the west end of the nave. Some churches\u00a0are surrounded with\u00a0arcades, the so-called Soboty\u00a0(or Saturdays),\u00a0a shelter for\u00a0worshippers who arrived\u00a0already on Saturday\u00a0for Sunday service. Churches were built of wood because of the\u00a0scarcity of other building materials. The\u00a0most commonly\u00a0of larch. Majority of buildings in Malopolska were built using horizontal log technique.\u00a0Carefully fitted logs were\u00a0joined at the corners without any nails or screws.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-medium alignleft wp-image-36006\" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Tarnow_Na_Burku_Church-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Tarnow_Na_Burku_Church-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Tarnow_Na_Burku_Church-1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Development of brick Gothic architecture had major impact on the form and style of wooden churches built in the\u00a015th century. Their most distinctive features\u00a0are enclosed, three sided presbyteries, Gothic portals and window frames. Roofs were also enriched and because of that they became more complicated. Gothic tradition resisted trends from the Renaissance. Wooden churched in the Gothic style were built even in the\u00a018th century. Surviving wooden architecture in the Tarn\u00f3w region includes churches, manor houses as well as architecture of picturesque small towns.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Churches<\/b><br \/>\r\n\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" class=\"size-medium alignleft wp-image-24396\" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Kosciol-w-pw.-sw.-Leonarda-Lipnicy-Murowanej-2-300x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Kosciol-w-pw.-sw.-Leonarda-Lipnicy-Murowanej-2-300x400.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Kosciol-w-pw.-sw.-Leonarda-Lipnicy-Murowanej-2.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Kosciol-w-pw.-sw.-Leonarda-Lipnicy-Murowanej-2-488x650.jpg 488w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Kosciol-w-pw.-sw.-Leonarda-Lipnicy-Murowanej-2-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"Lipnica St Leonard's Church\" name=\"Lipnica St Leonard's Church\"><\/a>The most important monument of the religious architecture in the Tarn\u00f3w region is, listed on a UNESCO World Heritage List, saint Leonard\u2019s church in <b>Lipnica Murowana<\/b>. According to a legend it was built on a site of ancient pagan worship. The only thing saved from this old structure is a Pillar of \u015awiatowid. Currently it supports the altar of saint Leonard. By the decision of UNESCO, a copy of the altar was placed in the church in order to protect it from destruction. The original piece\u00a0is currently one of the most precious exhibits in the Tarn\u00f3w Diocese Museum. <br \/>\r\n\u00a0<br \/>\r\n<a id=\"Skrzysz\u00f3w St Stanis\u0142aw Church\" name=\"Skrzysz\u00f3w St Stanis\u0142aw Church\"><\/a>Another precious monument is, in the Tarn\u00f3w neighboring <b>Skrzysz\u00f3w<\/b>, saint Stanislaw the Bishop\u2019s church. This temple was built in the XVI century and was founded by Jan Amor Tarnowski. It is considered to be one of the biggest and most beautiful examples of wooden architecture in Ma\u0142opolska. <br \/>\r\n\u00a0<br \/>\r\n<a id=\"Tarn\u00f3w Wooden Churches\" name=\"Tarn\u00f3w Wooden Churches\"><\/a>In <b>Tarn\u00f3w<\/b> there are two churches which are made entirely of wood from the XV and XVI centuries. Beautifully decorated interiors contain original furnishings. Blessed Virgin Mary church, also called the \u201echurch by the Burek\u201d is home to a painting of the Blessed Virgin with a Child, known for many miracles. In the Holy Trinity church we can find a painting with a rare depiction of Holy Trinity in a Pietas Domini style which shows dead Christ resting on the knees of God His Hather.<br \/>\r\n\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium alignright wp-image-21593\" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zawada-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Marcina-1-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zawada-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Marcina-1-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zawada-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Marcina-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zawada-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Marcina-1-650x488.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zawada-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Marcina-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zawada-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Marcina-1.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Zawada<\/b> contains the church of St. Martin that was built in the XV century and then reconstructed a few times during the late Gothic period, which is evident in the structure\u2019s design.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Jastrz\u0119bia<\/b> contains the parish church of St. Bartolemew the Apostle, built in the early XVI century. Inside the church you can view the late Baroque style altars, pictures, sculptures, a stone Renaissance-Baroque baptismal font, and a Gothic bell dated between the XV and XVI centuries.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" class=\"size-medium alignright wp-image-24502\" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jastrzebia-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Bartlomieja-Apostola-1-300x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jastrzebia-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Bartlomieja-Apostola-1-300x400.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jastrzebia-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Bartlomieja-Apostola-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jastrzebia-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Bartlomieja-Apostola-1-488x650.jpg 488w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jastrzebia-Kosciol-p.w.-sw.-Bartlomieja-Apostola-1-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Biesiadki<\/b> maintains the parish Church of \u015bw. Mateusz Aposto\u0142 Ewangelista (St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist) that was built in 1661 in Baroque and Gothic styles. Its interior has: buttresses with vaults, a woodwork portal and door, Gothic furnishings in the main entrance, and Baroque objects dated to the 17 th -19 th centuries.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Binarowa<\/b> is the home of the Gothic church of \u015bw. Micha\u0142 Archanio\u0142 (St. Michael the Archangel), which was founded around the turn of the 16 th century and was thoroughly renovated in 1641 and 1890. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Bochnia<\/b> has a belfry located next to the parish church of \u015bw. Mikolaj B. (St. Nicolaus Bishop). The bells are recreations of the originals built in 1609, which burned in 1983.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>D\u0105browa Tarnowska<\/b> contains the church of Wszyscy Sweci (All Saints) that was built in 1771 in Baroque style and its interior, mainly in Rococo, dates back to the end of the 18 th century.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Gosprzydowa<\/b> has the parish church of Sw Urszula z Towarzyszkami that was built in 1697. The Baroque interior is dated back to the 17 th and 18 th centuries and its stone stoup was constructed in 1585.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Iwkowa<\/b> owns the cemetery church of Narodzenie NMP, dated to the second half of the 15 th century. On the walls of its presbytery, there are murals depicting the Passion of Christ.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Gnojnik<\/b> is where the church of Sw Marcin Bp. (St. Martin the Bishop) stands. It was built at the turn of the 17 th century in the style of Baroque with late Gothic elements that is no longer used.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Moszczenica<\/b> maintains the cemetery chapel of Chrystus w Ciemnicy, erected in the second half of the 17 th century. There is an ornately designed wood portal near the entrance and Baroque wall paintings that narrate the scenes from the Passions of Christ.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Podole<\/b> is the home of the parish church of Podniesienie Krzy\u017ca Panskiego constructed under Gothic influence with a Baroque tower in the early 16 th century. The interior is adorned with a mural created in 1542.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Pogwizdow<\/b> has the church of St. Simon and the Apostles Judah and Thaddeus, that was founded sometime between the 15 th and 16 th centuries. Within the church there are Baroque furnishings from a period between the 17 th and 18 th centuries.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Rozdziele<\/b> contains the parish church of St. Jacob, built in 1563 and founded by King Zygmunt August in Krolowka; it was transferred to Rozdziele in 1990. At the entrance of the structure there is a portal with the intricate woodwork of a coat of arms &#8220;Topor&#8221; that is from the second half of the 16 th century.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Sobolow<\/b> has a parish church dedicated to the honor of All Saints, which was built at the turn of the 17 th c. Its interior is decorated with a flying buttress, Baroque furnishings, and a 1583 picture of the Crucifixion.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Wojnicz<\/b> is a small town which founded the auxiliary church of St. Leonard. It is reported to have been built in 1209, but experts have dated its origin to approximately 1460.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Manors<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><a id=\"Wierzchos\u0142awice Manor House\" name=\"Wierzchos\u0142awice Manor House\"><\/a>Wooden manor houses in the Tarn\u00f3w region are precious architectural monuments as well as teachers and witnesses of polish history. <br \/>\r\n\u00a0House of Wincenty Witos in <b>Wierzchos\u0142awice<\/b>, a place of annual pilgrimages of people from all over Poland, was converted into a museum of three time Polish Prime Minister, creator of the first folk university. Till this day, almost all of the equipment and original furnishings of the house, which was a witness to the birth and death of one of the greatest polish leaders, survived.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-medium alignleft wp-image-36016\" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Nowy-Wisnicz-Koryznowka-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Nowy-Wisnicz-Koryznowka-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Nowy-Wisnicz-Koryznowka-1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Manor house in <b>Do\u0142\u0119ga<\/b>, today a branch of the Regional Museum in Tarn\u00f3w, has an equally interesting history. Its owners were assaulted during the peasant uprising, later it served as a hospital for poles wounded during the January Uprising. Stay in this beautifully maintained property and walks in the surrounding park, faithfully recapture the climate of XIX century nobility.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0<b>Nowy Wi\u015bnicz<\/b> has a mansion, called Koryznowka, that is dated back to the early 19 th century and maintains a biographical museum of Jan Matejko (built in classical style).<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Utilitarian architecture <\/b><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium alignleft wp-image-25708\" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lipnica-Murowana-Rynek-1-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lipnica-Murowana-Rynek-1-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lipnica-Murowana-Rynek-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lipnica-Murowana-Rynek-1-650x488.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lipnica-Murowana-Rynek-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Lipnica-Murowana-Rynek-1.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Rarity of the Tarn\u00f3w region are small towns which emanate a specific climate, and which style is created by original urban layouts, in many places from the middle ages. Characteristic for them are low, mostly ground floor buildings, facing the city square.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0In <a class=\"target_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/en\/worth-seeing\/charming-small-towns\/\"><b>Lipnica Murowana<\/b><\/a> and <a class=\"target_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/en\/worth-seeing\/charming-small-towns\/\"><b>Ci\u0119\u017ckowice<\/b><\/a> , houses are shielded by arcades, placed on characteristic pillars.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0Carpenters from <a class=\"target_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/en\/worth-seeing\/charming-small-towns\/\"><b>Zakliczyn<\/b><\/a> , as the only ones used a technique of building houses with extended eaves, supported by beams, which allowed for a change of wall layout, without a need to alter the roof. <br \/>\r\n\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Other interesting examples of wooden architecture are the villages.<\/p>\r\n<p>In <b>Mokrzyska<\/b> we find a complex of cottages built in a specific for Ma\u0142opolska, Krak\u00f3w style with whitewashed walls.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium alignright wp-image-21106\" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zalipie-Malowana-Wies-4-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zalipie-Malowana-Wies-4-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zalipie-Malowana-Wies-4-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zalipie-Malowana-Wies-4-650x488.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zalipie-Malowana-Wies-4-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Zalipie-Malowana-Wies-4.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>In <b>Uj\u015bcie Solne<\/b>, a historic town located near the mouth of the river Raba the salt from Bochnia was unloaded. From this post was developed a large market square that spawned multiple outreaching roads. Also preserved are wooden houses near the town square that were constructed in the XIX and XX centuries.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0<b><a class=\"target_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.it.tarnow.pl\/en\/worth-seeing\/ethnography\/\">Zalipie<\/a> <\/b>is the only \u201epainted village\u201d in Poland that preserves the tradition of decorating both the interior and exterior of houses with murals of bouquets. At the present, there are about thirty cottages and farm buildings that have walls adorned with these unique flower paintings.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Our ancestors built wooden huts, inns, mansions and churches. Today we rediscover advantages of wood as building material. It is natural, healthy, economical and classically beautiful. And wooden buildings are exceptional. One may even say &#8211; they have a soul.
